Creative Process:  Portrait Photography with Off Camera Flash

Portrait photography has always been very interesting to me, everyday i get to see online great portraits taken by awesome photographers from all around the world, and those I like most are the ones where people seem unposed and naturally lit. Model: Vicky Godoy

I recently got to read the Lighting 101 article on strobist.com and really liked his analogy of working with off camera flash as if it was cooking, however, next chance I get to work on a portrait session I will make a bigger effort to keep in mind inverse square law principles as well as taking frequent flash readings.

Since I was using my off camera flashes on this shoot, I figured why not use color gels to spice things up and I immediately realized how much fun that can be, however, when working with color gels it can be easy to lose track and stop seeing light with an objective eye.
